Mazda announces new Toyota Yaris based Mazda 2 Hybrid

Mazda announces new Toyota Yaris based Mazda 2 Hybrid

Mazda has announced the new Mazda 2 Hybrid, which will go on sale here in the UK next year. If this car looks familiar, it should be as it is essentially a Toyota Yaris. This comes from a new partnership between the two companies and it’ll be sold alongside the traditional petrol powered Mazda 2.

It looks like Mazda didn’t have a full hybrid power system in place yet, as this is the first full hybrid from the company, hence the need to partner with Toyota. Mazda has produced mild hybrid cars, such as the 2, 3, CX-30 and CX-5.

In terms of engines, the 2 Hybrid uses the exact same one as the Yaris, with a 1.5-litre 3 cylinder petrol with 114bhp. 0-60mph is handled in 9.7 secs and a top speed of 109mph.
