Mazda has discontinued the electric MX-30

Mazda MX-30 EV

Mazda has only ever had the one EV on sale, with many Japanese car companies being behind the times when it comes to devolping new EV models. Mazda announced the MX-30 back in 2019 at the Tokyo Motor Show and it went on sale in January 2021. When compared to other EVs on sale at the time, the MX-30 had a very poor range of 124 miles.

Mazda fitted a rather small battery to the MX-30, with only a 35.5kWh unit, offering a relatively poor range. The company did also release a plug-in-hybrid version since, with a 17.8kWh battery and a 0.8-litre petrol engine. This system combined, offers 400 miles of range.

Going forward however, the company is putting more focus on EVs with the the Mazda 6e saloon due to launch in 2026. However, this isn't a fully in-house model as it is based on the Deepal L07 for the Chinese and European market.
