New electric Changan Deepal S07 launching very soon in the UK

Changan Deepal S07

Another new Chinese brand is due to launch its first model in the UK pretty soon. Deepal will launch the S07 this summer and it'll be priced from £39,950, nicely below that £40,000 tax bracket.

Changan might be an unknown brand for the UK, but it was actually founded back in 1862 and has been making cars in China for over 40 years. The company has joint ventures in operation with Ford and Mazda, but has its own homegrown brands too, with Avatr and Deepal.

Changan currently has a UK based R&D centre in Birmingham and a design house in Turin. These two bases will be responsible for making sure the handling and looks appeal to European tastes and roads.

In terms of specs, the Deepal S07 seems to fall short, at least on paper. While it has a large 80kWh battery pack, the official claimed range is 295 miles, which isn't that competitive when compared to some its main rivals, such as the Tesla Model Y.

Charging is also strangley slow, with a maximum 92kW DC. This means that 10-80% takes 48 minutes. Many other cars in this class can do the same in around 15-18 minutes, such as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Deepal will only offer the one trim in the UK, to keep things simple. This come with a large 15.6-inch infotainment screen, with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get a heads up display, 360-degree camera system and a large panoramic sunroof.

At the moment, it isn't very clear exactly how and when Deepal plan to launch the S07 in the UK, although we do know it'll likely be this summer. Deepal is also planning on bringing the smaller S05 here, as well as the E07 pickup truck.
