BMW has recently launched a new, faclifted version of the Z4 sports car. The car was initially launched back in 2019, around the same time as the closely related Toyota Supra – now three years on, the company has lightly updated it with new trim levels and updated design throughout.

To start with, BMW has added two new trim levels, ‘M Sport’ and ‘M’. On all Z4 models, BMW has made the M Sport package standard, however, but the M model does get some unique exhaust tips in a trapezoidal shape.

In terms of engines, the entry level M Sport sDrive20i model gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder engine, making 194bhp. 0-60mph is reasonable at 6.6 seconds. The top of the line M40i model gets the same 3.0-litre straight-six as before, which is also used in the Supra. This engine makes 335bhp and can do 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds.

For the transmission, the Supra and the Z4 have swapped roles, with the Z4 now losing the manual option in favour of a eight speed automatic box, just as the Supra gains a new manual option recently.

Inside, BMW has kept things pretty much the same, with the same dual 10.25-inch screens with support for the new ‘BMW Live Cockpit’ as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new BMW Z4 is on sale now in the UK, with prices starting at £43,795.
