New Volkswagen Caddy California now on sale in the UK

Volkswagen has recently put the new Caddy California on sale here in the UK, the latest baby model to join VW’s California line of official campervans. The Caddy California, like the other models shares its base upon the commercial van of which it shares its name.

The Caddy California comes as standard with a fold out bed, retractable mini kitchen which includes a single-burner hob and an integrated gas bottle. Also included are foldable chairs and table, just like the standard larger California.

The windows have blackout blinds included, which also function as storage bags. There are also a variety of storage compartments throughout the Caddy, which VW say are ideal for kitchen utensils and other essentials.

Apart from the campervan additions, the Caddy California also comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, lane assistance, cruise control, trailer assist as well as air conditioning inside, six speaker system and an 8.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Volkswagen will naturally sell you some optional extras. Available is the ‘California Plus pack’ which comes in at £984 and adds LED rear lights, rear privacy glass, two USB ports, 230V mains inverter which has a standard three-pin UK socket. There is also the choice of a panoramic glass sunroof.

The Caddy California starts at £30,720 in the UK for the standard wheelbase variant. This version comes with a 112bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine which only drives the front wheels. VW has said that down the line, it is planning on releasing more engine choices and a four wheel drive version.
