Portsmouth City Council installs solar panels and uses Tesla Powerwalls at Hilsea Industrial Estate

Portsmouth City Council installs solar panels and uses Tesla Powerwalls at Hilsea Industrial Estate

Last month, Portsmouth City Council announced that it had installed a large 250 kilo-watt (kW) solar panel system, coupled with Tesla Powerwalls to store the energy harvested by the sun. They have installed ten units, providing 135 kWh of electricity – which is enough power to keep a typical home for about two weeks.

“It’s fantastic to see Portsmouth City Council leading the way when it comes to innovative projects like the one at Hilsea Industrial Estate. Not only are we producing and using our own renewable energy but projects like this dramatically reduce the Council’s ongoing energy costs. The Council has been clear in setting out its plans in tackling climate emergency and it’s fantastic to see projects like acting out these plans.”

Dave Ashmore – Cabinet Member of Environment and Climate Change – Portsmouth City Council

Portsmouth City Council is aiming to be carbon neutral by 2030 and this is a good step at the Hilsea Industrial Estate. This isn’t the first solar and Tesla Powerwall the council has done, it has already installed system at 13 housing blocks in the area, with 20 more to come soon.
