According to a report from The China Times we will be seeing the much rumoured and anticipated iMac, powered by Apple Silicon and a brand new design in 2021 – specifically, in the first half of the year. The 27-inch iMac was only updated a few months ago with a spec bump, a new matte display option and the choice of 10 gigabit ethernet. The design remained the same on both 21-inch and 27-inch models. The 21-inch model did get a very minor spec change, with the spinning hard drives being dropped from the line, only remaining in the Fusion Drive spec.

Apple would be expected to also revamp the entire design of the iMac, the current design with the 5mm edge has been with us since 2012 and has remained unchanged since then, the next generation is rumoured to take design cues from the current iPad Pro and now the iPhone 12, with flat edges, edge to edge displays and more industrial look – similar to the Pro Display XDR.

According to the report, we’ll be seeing the new model in the first half of 2021 powered by Apple Silicon using the A14T chip, code named “Mt. Jade” with an Apple designed GPU to sit alongside it. The A14X is expected to power the next generation of MacBook Pros and the upcoming iPad Pro model. Apple announced the transition away from Intel at WWDC earlier this year in June and that the entire process would take two years.

Apple also said at WWDC that the first Apple Silicon based Mac would arrive later this year.
