Two of the UK's largest mobile phone networks, Vodafone and Three, completed their £16bn merger in the last few days. The two companies announced plans to merge in June 2023, and the deal was subsequently approved in December 2024.

The new company has been named as VodafoneThree, with a new website published to highlight the changes that are coming in the next few years.

Vodafone will own 51% of the business and CK Hutchison will retain 49%. Going forward, a further £11 billion will be invested over the next 10 years, to upgrade the network infrastructure and improve coverage.

It is worth noting that nothing consumer focusing will actually change just yet. Once the lengthy process has been completed to merge the network infrastructure, staff and offices then will Three and Vodafone customers start to see some improvement. The ultimate end game plan is to merge the two networks, so coverage and service gets better.
