2022 has been an expensive year so far and not just for the cost of living issues in the UK, but also the rising expenses for company car fleets. According to ALD Automotive the costs for company cars have increased by 18% so far this year. New orders for electric vehicles, both vans and cars have increased and 27% of the orders for new vehicles have been BEVs.

For companies, electric vehicles are still usually cheaper for fleets than petrol and diesels, despite the rising cost in energy. In fact, the cost of energy is outpacing that of fuel, but even so the demand for EVs for companies at least, hasn’t slowed. ALD Automotive attribute this to the energy price caps and tax incentives for businesses, both of which mean that in cases, electric vehicles are a cheaper alternative to petrol and diesel.

In the UK car and van market, there is a huge amount of new metal on offer, with many electric vans already on sale from the likes of Volkswagen, Mercedes, Ford and the Stellantis group, which contains Vauxhall, Peugeot, Fiat, Citroën and more. More EV vans are coming in 2023, with the Ford E-Transit Custom and E-Transit Tourneo. In the car market, the Vauxhall Corsa-e has been on sale for a couple of years now and the Astra Electric is due in 2023.

Cars such as the MG5 have been popular with taxi and private hire companies and are priced competitively.

However, home charging costs have pretty much doubled in the past twelve months and as for petrol and diesel, these have grown by 9% and 23% since November 2021.
