Seat has now taken the Alhambra MPV off sale

Seat has now taken the Alhambra MPV off sale

Seat is planning on stopping production of the Seat Alhambra MPV at the end of March, and it has already pulled the car from sale. Seat introduced the Alhambra back in the late 90s and it was based on the Volkswagen Sharan at the time and now after over two decades on the market, Seat has decided to pull the car.

This is just a sign of the times, MPVs were one of the most popular types of vehicles in the late 90s and early 2000s, this was before the SUV boom, where nearly everyone has an SUV now. MPVs are still on sale, Ford currently makes the S-MAX and the Galaxy still and one of the original MPVs, the Renault Scenic is still being produced.

The Volkswagen Sharan is the largest MPV in the Volkswagen line-up currently and is joined by the smaller Touran, the Touran will remain in the model range but, once the factories reopen once the coronavirus pandemic has cleared, the Sharan will be produced for a short period of time before being dropped from sale at the end of this year.

Seat has said that it is:

“Reviewing the suitability of older models to ensure we’re fit and sustainable for the future. As part of this strategy we’re focusing on new and electric models such as the Seat Leon plug-in hybrid and Cupra Formentor plug-in hybrid crossover coupé and will be removing older vehicles from sale with newer, cleaner models to replace them in the future.”

Once the Alhambra is dropped from sale, the other option for Seat buyers is the new Tarraco SUV, which does have seven seats.
