BYD launches new Sealion 05 EV in China

BYD Sealion 05 EV in Blue

BYD has recently launched a new Sealion series electric SUV in China, with the Sealion 05 EV. The car will sit alongside the larger and more premium, Sealion 07 EV as well as the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i too. The new car is on sale now for 117,800 yuan in China, which works out to be around £12,555 in the UK.

The new car is based on the same e-Platform 3.0 Evo vehicle platform as the larger Sealion 07 and measures in at 4.52 x 1.86 x 1.63 metres. BYD is offering three trim levels, with the 430 Intelligent Aviation Edition, 520 Intelligent Aviation Edition and 520 Flagship Intelligent Aviation Edition.

Strange naming aside, the number is referring to the amount of range in kilometres. The base model has a 140kW rear motor and a 50.05kWh LFP BYD Blade battery, which offers 430km (267 miles) of CLTC range. The other two models have a 160kW motor, larger 60.9kWh LFP BYD Blade battery and 520km (323 miles) of CLTC range. Exact DC charging speeds have not yet been revealed.

The Sealion 05 comes in blue, white, ash and cream. The interior, like other BYD models comes in either black or white.

It isn't clear yet if or when the Sealion 05 would even be sold outside of China. But for now, the UK BYD lineup is expanding and the company recently launched the Sealion 07 EV here.
