Skoda unveils new 2020 Octavia with more hybrid options

Skoda unveils new 2020 Octavia with more hybrid options

In the last few minutes, Skoda has unveiled the new Octavia for 2020, which is based off the new VW Golf Mk8 platform. This isn’t the first time one of the VW sister companies has used one of the VW platforms before Volkswagen itself, back in 2017, Seat used the Polo platform for 2018 on the Seat Ibiza supermini.

Octavia

This is now the Octavia’s fourth generation, with a much more modern exterior design, ditching the split headlight look, which personally I think looked a bit odd. The new design matches the Scala more closely. The new car is a bit longer than the outgoing model, at 19mm longer for the hatchback and 22mm for the estate version.

Tech

Where would new cars be without new tech to play with and the new Octavia now has a large 10.2-inch screen for Virtual Cockpit and the option of a 8.2-inch or 10-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard for satellite navigation, CarPlay and audio settings.

Interestingly, something nice to see on the new car is the addition of USB-C and this is the only connector that is available, which is nice to see. Also for newer smartphones, wireless charging is offered.

Engines

As mentioned above, the new Skoda Octavia is based off the new upcoming Volkswagen Golf Mk8 platform, and like the new Golf the Octavia will be offered with a range of hybrid options. Base engine offered is a 1.0-litre three cylinder turbo petrol with 108bhp.

Pricing and availability

No pricing information at the moment, but we do know that the new car will launch in the second half of 2020.

Stay tuned to A&T Tech for more information.
