Genesis unveils updated Electrified G80 in Korea

Genesis has refreshed its big luxury, upmarket electric executive saloon with refined styling, larger battery, modern interior and more up to date technology. To give it its proper title, the new Electrified G80 was previewed earlier this year in April at the Beijing Motor Show, and this is the first major update to the car, since it was originally introduced in July 2021.

The updated Electrified G80 will go on sale in the company's home country of South Korea first, with an expansion to other global markets, which includes the UK in 2025.

Genesis Electrified G80 Side

When Genesis first offered the Electrified G80, it was simply an EV version of the pre-existing combustion powered G80. However, while that is still pretty much the case, Genesis is now positioning the EV version has more of a luxury limo. As a result, the wheelbase has been stretched by 130mm which has provided 83mm of additional rear leg room as well as 20mm more headroom too.

The front styling of the new G80 has also been refreshed, there are now larger air intakes and the front charging port has been better integrated to make less visible. That new charging port by the way, now has a heating element to stop it from freezing shut, should that ever happen. Genesis has also added new 19-inch alloy wheels to the lineup as well as two new colour finishes, including Matria Blue and Geneva Silver - bringing the total up to 10.

Inside, huge changes have taken place. Gone is the relatively small single infotainment screen and it has been replaced with one super large 27-inch OLED display. This houses the drivers display and infotainment screen and this configuration is a staple of pretty much all cars from Kia, Hyundai and Genesis and they usually, work very well.

For the battery, this has seen a large increase in capacity. The outgoing car has a 87kWh pack and offers 323 miles of range. The new G80 now uses a much larger 94.5kWh pack and offers 475km on a single charge, which is 295 miles. This is based on Korean EV certification standards and it is expected that the G80 will exceed this when tested with WLTP.

The current electric Genesis G80 is priced at £69,905 in the UK and Genesis will reveal more specs and pricing in the coming months.
