Smart has revealed its new flagship EV, the Smart #1

Smart this week has revealed its all new flagship model as the company is being re-invented with a full EV focus. The company is now undergoing its new reinvention after 28 years and is going all-in on EVs.

The company is now part owned by Chinese group Geely, which also runs Volvo and Lotus as well as being owned still by Mercedes-Benz, its original founder. The Smart #1 is the company’s first new vehicle since 2014 and is a sign of things to come from the company.

Smart has had electric vehicles on sale before the Smart #1, with the Smart Fortwo and Smart Forfour, but the new crossover is completely unrelated to those models.

The Smart #1 has a 66kWh battery with a range of 273 miles and supports 150kW rapid charging. This means it can juice up from 10-80% in 30 mins or less.

Inside, there is a very large 12.8-inch touchscreen for infotainment and supports voice control with different characters.

Smart will be taking orders for the #1 later this year with a launch in 2023 for the UK market. The company is prioritising EV deliveries first. Price is yet to be officially announced but it should be around £35,000.
