Toyota and Lexus to add CarPlay to 2019 models

Toyota and Lexus to add CarPlay to 2019 models

At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit today, Lexus unveiled its latest car – The 2019 Avalon saloon car and according to a post from Apple blog MacRumors, it is the first new car from Lexus that will support CarPlay from Apple. This is something which a handful of car journalists have criticised Lexus for, as all the big main manufactures now support CarPlay and or Android Auto, including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and even Ferrari.

More models

Toyota, the parent company behind Lexus is planning to bring CarPlay support to more models for the 2019 lineup, so far the new Entune 3,0 system already works on the 2018 Toyota Camry and the 2018 Toyota Sienna, whether or not CarPlay can be added with firmware update remains to be seen.

According to MacRumors the addition of CarPlay in Toyota and Lexus models won’t be the most up-to-date, as it will require an iPhone to be connected via USB to the infotainment system to work.

Availability

So far, CarPlay on Lexus and Toyota models is currently limited to the United States market. We have reached out to Lexus and Toyota for a comment on whether or not the expansion to other countries is planned and if we hear back, we will update this page.
