Ubiquiti announces the new G5 Bullet for UniFi Protect

Ubiquiti has today released the new G5 Bullet, which like the G5 Dome that the company revealed this week has the promise of improved image quality, all while being a cheaper to purchase product. While the G4 Dome and G5 Dome are the same price, at £193.94 in the UK and $179 in the US the new G5 Dome is significantly less than the G4 Bullet. The G4 Bullet costs $199 in the US and in the UK £215. Compare that to the G5 Bullet, which is $129 in the US and £138.53 in the UK.

The design is pretty similar, if not going back to the construction and look of the G3 Bullet, with a plastic housing and white sun shade. The G4 Bullet moved to having an all metal construction and all black front. Other changes include moving back to 100mbps networking interface, vs the 1000mbps on the G4 Bullet. These kinds of cameras wont be able to generate anywhere near 100mbps, so for the cost savings that comes with it, thats pretty acceptable.

Other changes come with the field of view with H: 86°, V: 60°, D: 111° on the G4 Bullet and now H: 84.4°, V: 45.4°, D: 99.8° on the G5 Bullet, which is a bit less but shouldn’t be enough to make a huge difference. Both cameras have a 5MP sensor, but now being able to handle up to 30FPS, vs 24FPS in the older model.

Like all new UniFi Protect cameras, the G5 Bullet will support Smart detections for people and vehicles and now as of a new Protect update, it’ll be able to listen out for smoke and CO alarms if you have those nearby. Like the G4, the G5 is also rated for IPX4 weather proofing and IK04 for vandal resistance.

The G5 Bullet is on sale now in the US, EU and UK and is priced from $129 in the US, £138.53 in the UK and €156 in the EU.

The G5 Bullet can be found in the UK/EU Ubiquiti Store here. As of writing, it is actually in stock. US store link here.
