Ubiquiti announces two new 2.5G Flex Switches with SFP+

Ubiquiti has today, announced two brand new Flex switches, one which offers 8 2.5G RJ45 ports, without PoE and a 10GbE SFP+ uplink port. The other offers 8 2.5GbE ports with PoE output and a SFP+ port for uplink. Like the other Flex switches, they can be powered in various different ways.

The new USW-Flex-2.5G-8 has eight 2.5 GbE ethernet ports, without PoE and the uplink can be either via ethernet or SFP+. The ethernet uplink is capable of 10/5/2.5/1GbE and takes PoE+ for power. However, only one of these ports can be used for the uplink. Ubiquiti has said on its store page that the ethernet port can be used for power and then data can be used on SFP+, if required. Otherwise, the option of using USB-C is an option too.

The USW-Flex-2.5G-8-PoE has the same chassis, but offers loads of different options for PoE - much like the USW-Ultra switches. This one can be powered via PoE+++ or via an optional AC power adaptor. Much like the Ultra switches, the PoE budget is variable, so it can be powered via PoE+, PoE++ or PoE+++ and the budget varies based on that.

The optional 210W AC power adapter can also be used with the USW-Ultra switch if required.

Along with these two new switches, Ubiquiti has added two new mounting accessories. with a DIN Rail Mount and Floating Mount. The Floating Mount is magnetic and only works with the two new 2.5GbE Flex switches announced today. The DIN Rail Mount works with both the USW-Ultra switches and the switches announced today.

The new Flex 2.5G retails for $159 in the US and is on sale now. The PoE version is $199 and will be available on 16th January. In the UK, the Flex 2.5G is £144 and the PoE version is £180 - both are marked as 'coming soon'.
