Ubiquiti introduces new UniFi U6 Extender WiFi 6 access point

Ubiquiti introduces new UniFi U6 Extender WiFi 6 access point

Today, Ubiquiti has released a brand new access point for UniFi and it is already in stock at the time of writing. The new U6-Extender is available now on the official US Ubiquiti store, as well as the EU store (which also covers the UK). The U6-Extender is essentially a new updated version of the BeaconHD that was released a few years ago.

The U6-Extender supports the latest 802.11ax WiFi 6 standards with an impressive 4.8 Gbps throughput rate on 5GHz using 4×4 MU-MIMO and OFDMA. On 2.4GHz it supports 2×2 MU-MIMO and OFDMA. To get it adopted to a UniFi Controller, Ubiquiti says the master AP providing connectivity needs to be running 6.0.11 firmware, or later.

In the US and the EU, the access point has an integrated wall plug and should fit over a standard socket. However, Ubiquiti has not made a UK specific version, so users will need to use an adaptor which will be bulky.

The new U6-Extender is on sale now with prices in the US at $149, in the EU €170,61 and in the UK at £144.05. It is priced slightly higher than the outgoing BeaconHD.
