Ubiquiti launches new range of third generation UniFi Access devices

Ubiquiti recently launched the latest third generation of its UniFi Access door access devices. There are officially three new devices and a new Door Hub Mini too, which offers more cost effective deployments options for single doors. All of these new devices add Apple Wallet support, which Ubiquiti is calling Touch Pass and allows seamless access to doors using an iPhone or Apple Watch, with the card being stored in the Apple Wallet app.

Reader and Reader Pro

The first too, the Reader and Reader Pro have not changed in any significant way. These devices got their major updates when Ubiquiti launched the second generation devices a few years ago. The only thing Ubiquti has done is make the white versions a slightly brighter shade of white and add the necessary hardware for Apple Wallet support, as this, according to Ubiquiti couldn't be done via software. It is also unclear if this feature is limited to the G3 readers, but with UnIFi Access 3.0, guests can now use a QR code to log into a door too.

The pricing is slightly higher on these models though. Where the standard G2 Reader is $139 in the US, the G3 version is now $159. In the UK, the prices have remained the same, at £126. For the Reader Pro models, the G2 version is $359 and the G3 is $379. In the UK, both versions are the same price, at £330.

Reader Flex

The truly new device is the new Reader Flex. This offers a more cost effective way to offer an outdoor keypad for visitors and doesn't require the high cost of the G3 Reader Pro, should the camera function not be required. This device also supports Apple Wallet and costs $199 in the US and £162 in the UK.
