Volkswagen introduces new, all electric ID.Buzz Cargo van

Last week, Volskwagen took the wraps off the new ID.Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargo. In this article, we are going to discuss the new cargo version, which is a commercial vehicle through and through, but based on VW’s brand new MEB platform, the same as the ID.3 and ID.4.

As the ID name suggests, the ID.Buzz Cargo is fully electric, with a range yet to be confirmed by VW. However, this is one of the first all electric vans to go on sale that’ll be built on a fully bespoke, custom platform. It’ll be going up against the offering from the Stellantis group, which has the Citroën e-Dispatch and Vauxhall Vivaro-e to name a few. However, those models only have around 205 miles of range and considering the ID.Buzz shares technology with the ID.3, the range should be a lot more than that.

The ID.Buzz Cargo will have a 77kWh battery, the equivalent ID.3 can get 330 miles of range, so we could expect around 300 miles from the all electric van. However, this will need to be confirmed by VW.

The electric motor drives the rear wheels, just like the ID.3 and delivers 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. Thanks to the lack of combustion engine from the front, the turning circle is surprisingly good, with 11.1 metres.

ID.Buzz Cargo Interior

In terms of size, the ID.Buzz Cargo is 4,712mm long, by 1,985 wide and 1,938 tall. In the back there is 3.9 cubic metres of space. This sits the ID.Buzz Cargo in-between the Caddy Cargo and the latest T6 Transporter.

For the driver, there is the choice of having three or two seats with the latest VW system on a 5.4-inch screen for the driver and a 10-inch infotainment wig support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
