Today, Volkswagen has announced a new performance variant of the ID.7 Tourer, just one month after revealing the model itself. Like the new ID.3 GTX that has also been revealed today, the ID.7 GTX takes some inspiration from the GTI lineup with increased performance, sports styling and more kit as standard. With this new variant, the company says that this is “the most powerful Volkswagen estate ever built.”
Performance
For performance, Volkswagen has added two motors to the ID.7 GTX which combined make 340PS (335bhp), 54PS (53bhp) more than the ID.7 Tourer Pro. Also new is VW’s all wheel drive system, 4MOTION which uses differential locks and modified all wheel drive system controller to help keep the car stable on the road. Top speed has been limited to 111mph and the 4MOTION system comes as standard on the GTX. Also, thanks to the 4MOTION system, the towing capacity of the ID.7 is now 1.4 tonne vs 1 tonne.
For charging, the ID.7 Tourer GTX now has a 91kWh battery pack with a usable capacity of 86kWh. In comparison, the ID.7 Tourer Pro has a 77kWh usable battery pack. Charging speed is up to 200kW DC and takes less than 30 mins to go from 10-80%.
Design
Like the ID.3 GTX, Volkswagen has used a lot of GTI styling, around front there are new triangle shaped daytime running lights, diamond shaped grille and illuminated Volkswagen logo. As standard, there are new 20-inch alloy wheels available in gloss black or in a new diamond cut finish.
Interior
Inside, the the ID.7 Tourer GTX borrows a feature from the ID Buzz LWB with smart glass. The glass roof can become opaque using a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer which helps protect the interior from sun glare and infra-red rays, which will help keep the interior cool in the summer.
For the infotainment, the new 12.9-inch screen debuted with the ID.7 initially and the display is the same as we find in the entire model range.
For the seats there are new GTX specific seats covered in microfleece with GTX branding and red stitching.
Availability
No prices for the new ID.7 GTX Tourer are available yet, but Volkswagen says that pre-sales start in spring. However, as the Pro Match model is priced from £51,550 in the UK, we could expect prices to be £60,000 or more when it does go on sale. It will be available in red, white, silver, black and grey.
