New electric Renault 4 makes its debut in Paris

Renault is on a roll lately with its new range of electric cars that are inspired by iconic models of old. Renault actually calls these the 'Iconic Family’ and it started with the Renault 5 electric supermini. Now we have the latest and second model in this range with the Renault 4, this will also be followed up by a new electric Twingo in 2026.

The new Renault 4 is larger than the Renault 5, at 4140mm long, 1800mm wide and 1570mm tall. This makes it the same sort of size as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Jeep Avenger. However, like the Renault 5, the price will be one of its main differentiators, along with its funky design.

The new car does make some nice nods back to the original Renault 4 from 1961, with optional cloth roof, roof mounted rear spoiler and the sculpting on the side.

Inside, Renault has added a large boot, at 420-litres and it also has a removable storage bucket, which can be used to store dirty shoes or charging cables.

The inside looks very similar to the Renault 5, in fact they both sit on the same Ampr Small EV platform. There are two large displays, both around 10-inches and the whole car runs Google's automotive operating system.

For the motors, Renault has added a front mounted unit with 118bhp or 148bhp, depending on what battery you choose. We have the choice of either a 40kWh pack with 190 miles of range, or a 52kWh version with 250 miles of range. This all sounds pretty similar to the Renault 5. Charging speed tops out at 100kW.

Renault is due to announce pricing, but for reference the Renault 5 starts at a reasonable £23,000 in the UK. The Renault 4 will be built in France and customer deliveries will start in July 2025.
