Volkswagen unveils brand new fifth-generation Caddy

Volkswagen unveils brand new fifth-generation Caddy

Last week, after a few months of test vans being spotted – Volkswagen revealed the all new Caddy van for 2020, and it really is all new. It now sits on the MQB platform, is more aerodynamic, the interior is much more modern and there are more engine choices.

What’s new?

For a start, the new Caddy sits on Volkswagen’s all new MQB platform which allows for more room, a wider track and the cleaner design you see at the top. The new platform is now 93mm longer and 62mm wider. There’s also more width between the arches.

Volkswagen has also revamped how the trim levels are named, gone are the Trendline names, we now have Caddy, Life and Style which makes things a bit simpler. There are also much more options for configuring the Caddy to how you like it, it’ll come in a traditional panel van version, MPV and a campervan variant.

Inside is where a lot of work has been done, it is very similar to the new Golf 8 inside on the higher end versions, it as the Digital Cockpit with a redesigned dashboard. Like the new Golf, the Caddy has We Connect as an option.

Engine wise, there is no electric version unfortunately, only diesels for now. Three engines are on offer, 74bhp, 100bhp and an 120bhp version. To help reduce emissions, the engines have two catalytic converters which doubles the amount of AdBlue which is mixed in, which helps make the new Caddy up to 12% cleaner than the old models.

Later down the road, a 114bhp petrol engine will be an option.
