Volvo stops selling the S60 saloon in the UK

Volvo only offers two saloons in its lineup, the S60 and and larger S90. However, earlier today the Swedish brand announced that the S60 has been removed from sale in the UK. Volvo has said this is only a temporary change, but no information has been given if and when it would be back on sale.

The S60 started at £44,005 in the UK, with the choice of two engines. Either a 246bhp mild-hybrid petrol or a 448bhp petrol-electric plug-in hybrid. The latter model was called the S60 Recharge.

This move could well be only temporary, but Volvo has goals to become an electric only brand by 2030 and this decision could well be a step towards that. For something in the same same size, sister brand Polestar offers the Polestar 2 which could fill that gap.

We reached out to Volvo UK for a comment:

“No decision has yet been made about future model plans. We will communicate any updates as appropriate. We’re continually re-evaluating our product portfolio and as part of this process have temporarily removed the S60 from sale in the UK.”

Volvo is still offering the larger S90 saloon, as well as the V60 estate which shares pretty much everything from the saloon as well as he S90 based V90 estate. The decision to remove the car from sale could be down to the amount of sales it has had, recent data from Jato Dynamics shows that S60 and V60 sales have dropped by 51% this year.

Volvo has the EX90 to be full revealed soon, which is to be a fully electric XC90 sized SUV.
