Hyundai Inster to cost from £23,495 when it goes on sale next year

Hyundai has today revealed the pricing and final specifications for its smallest EV to date, the Inster. This little city EV was revealed back in June this year and is based on the Hyundai Casper, which is an ICE car on sale in South Korea. The Inster will go on sale in the UK next Spring and will cost from £23,495.

Despite looking a tad tall, the Inster is only 3.8m long, 1.6m wide and 1.6m tall which makes it the same sort of size as the Dacia Spring and the Citroën ë-C3. While it has dinky proportions, Hyundai has highlighted that it will have ample space inside, with seating for four and a clever adjustable interior. Each seat, including the driver's can fold completely flat.

Two trims

When the Inster goes on sale, it'll have two trims available. The base spec 01 will cost from £23,495 and have a 42kWh battery, which will offer up to 186 miles of range. The motor used is a 96bhp unit, driving the front wheels. 0-60mph is handled in 11.7 seconds, with a top speed of 97mph.

The 02 spec, will have a larger 49kWh battery offering 217 miles of range. This has a more powerful motor, with 113bhp offering a top speed of 93mph and 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds. This one also includes heated front seats, heated steering wheel, automatically dimming rear view mirror and wireless phone charging pad.

The 01 trim can also be had with the larger 49kWh battery from the 02 trim, priced at £25,045.

All versions are well specced as they come with a heat pump, nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery and support for 85kW DC fast charging.

"INSTER is not only our small EV SUV for the UK market but is also our first fully electrified city car, albeit with a range and fast charging abilities that provide customers with the confidence to embark upon longer journeys. Our retailer partners and their customers have already enjoyed a sneak preview on our INSTER Roadshow and early feedback suggests that the combination of design, equipment and price point is already generating excitement in the showrooms."

Tech

As of late, the Hyundai Group (Hyundai, Kia and Genesis) are known for good, simple and clever tech. Even in this, the smallest EV from the company, it comes as standard with two 10.25-inch digital displays and support for a mobile phone based key. If the other EVs from the group are anything to go by, this should support Apple Wallet based CarKey meaning sharing keys between family members is secure and easy.

Other tech from more expensive Hyundai Group models has also been trickled down, such as a 360° parking camera, adaptive cruise control and camera feeds showing your blind spot when you indicate.
