Mazda has announced that its new Mazda 2 Hybrid is now on sale in the UK, with prices starting at £20,300. The new model is based on the Toyota Yaris Hybrid and will be sold alongside the existing petrol 2. Orders have opened today, with the first customer deliveries to start in May. The Mazda 2 is based on the Yaris, but interestingly it is £520 cheaper.

The standard petrol powered Mazda 2 will remain on sale, priced at £16,575.

In terms of specs, the base model ‘Pure’ comes with 15-inch steel wheels, black body plastic, rain sensing windscreen wipers, LED rear lights, radar cruise control and a 7-inch touchscreen for infotainment. This model is £20,300.

Jumping up to the Agile, which isn’t much more at £21,150 – you get alloy wheels, bigger infotainment screen and reversing camera. At the top, the Select model comes with every option at £23,610.

Engine wise, it shares the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, with an electric motor as the Yaris – with 114bhp. 0-60mph is handled in 9.7 seconds, with a top speed of 109mph.

Mazda announced the new Yaris based car in December last year.
