BYD has revealed that its first seven seater SUV for the UK is coming soon, featuring an upright off-road inspired design, three rows of seats and likley, more than 600bhp. The company is due to release exact specifications in the next few months.
At first glance, the Ti7 doesn't really look like any other BYD model that has been launched in the UK so far, and this is for good reason. In China, the Ti7 is branded as the Fangchengbao Ti7, one of BYD's various sub-brands that is focused on off-road SUVs. The company also has Denza and Yangwang. While Denza is due to arrive in the UK soon as well, BYD has decided to not bring Fangchengbao here, likely due to how hard it is to spell.
This is where it gets a bit confusing, as Denza will be bringing the Denza B5 here soon, which is known as the Fangchengbao Bao 5 in China. But also, the styling of both the BYD Ti7 and the Denza B5 are quite similar which might create some muddiness between the two brands.
Back to the BYD Ti7, which as we have established is already on sale in China as the Fangchengbao Ti7, so we already know a fair amount about it. It isn't clear yet in what spec BYD will sell the Ti7 in the UK, but it comes as either a fully electric vehicle or as a plug-in-hybrid in China, with the full EV version capable of flash charging at up to 1,500kW.
The PHEV uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine in tandem with two electric motors, but BYD hasn't specified the battery size just yet. We do know that it'll have an all electric range of 79 miles, which is quite competive. and stacks up against the likes of the Chery Tiggo 9 and Omoda 9.
BYD is planning on sharing more infomation regarding pricing and UK specification soon.
