Apple hasn’t released macOS Big Sur yet

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14 as well as watchOS 7 but macOS Big Sur didn’t get released, Apple still has that marked down for a “fall release” and as we are expecting a new Apple Silcon Mac to get released by the end of this year, Apple will likely have a separate event in October or November for a Mac event, where macOS Big Sur will get a shipping date.

macOS Big Sur brings a lot of design changes to the Mac, the classic dock has been redesigned with new icons, apps have a streamlined design with more space. Control centre and notification from iOS has been brought over which will make things easier to find.

Safari has been redesigned with new privacy reports and start page backgrounds, the Messages app has been rebuilt and shares a lot of the same features it was missing from iOS, the Maps app also shares a lot from iOS 14, including EV charging routes, cycling directions and more.

macOS Big Sur will run on:

  • MacBook – 2015 and later
  • MacBook Air – 2013 and later
  • MacBook Pro – Late 2013 and later
  • Mac mini – 2014 and later
  • iMac – 2014 and later
  • iMac Pro all models
  • Mac Pro – 2013 and later
