Apple is going to start using randomised serial numbers soon

Starting later this year, Apple is going to start using randomised serial numbers for all of its products. It is unclear why Apple is looking to do this, but the current serial number process allows for the place of manufacture as well as date of manufacture. Apple was planning on moving to randomised serial numbers before the end of 2020, but this never happened.

Apple may be looking to do this to avoid any complaints of device issues based on the place and date it was made.
