Apple releases macOS Monterey 12.3 with support for Universal Control and more

Apple releases macOS Monterey 12.3 with support for Universal Control and more

Apple has today released a new major update to macOS Monterey, with version 12.3. This version includes Universal Control, a feature which was delayed from the original release back in October 2021. macOS Monterey 12.2 was released about a month ago, which fixed a vulnerability with Safari.

macOS Monterey 12.3 is available now for all compatible Macs and most should updated automatically, but if not you can go to System Preferences > Software Update and follow the instructions. Apple has also released macOS Big Sur 11.6.5 for older Macs.

The biggest new feature here is Universal Control, which allows you to share the keyboard and mouse from your Mac with nearby iPads and Macs, even allowing you to drag and drop photos, links and more between devices. As usual, there are some new emoji here, including biting lip, bubbles, eggs and more. Apple has also added support for dynamic head tracking for Spatial Audio – it must be said, this is only available on M1 Macs wit newer AirPods.

For users of Dropbox and OneDrive, Monterey 12.3 is dropping support for legacy kernel extensions, so there might be some issues – but both apps have support for the new APIs in beta.
