AT&T has launched its 5G network today in 10 US cities

Today, US carrier AT&T has announced its 5G network is now live for 10 major cities across the country. AT&T’s lower band, sub 6GHz 5G network is now live in the following cities

  • Indianapolis
  • Birmingham
  • Los Angeles
  • Milwaukee
  • Pittsburgh
  • Providence
  • Rochester
  • San Diego
  • San Francisco
  • San Jose

At the time of writing, only one handset can actually use 5G in the sub 6GHz spectrum which is the Samsung Galaxy Note+ 5G with more phones and devices coming soon.

AT&T has been offering much higher frequency networks in much more dense city areas with millimetre wave which due to the higher frequency, boasts much higher throughput but much less range and penetration.
