BMW revealed the all new flagship XM SUV earlier this year – and in November, it has now gone on sale. The XM is a super-SUV at a super price tag too, starting at £145,885 in the UK and is only the second standalone M car the division has created. 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the M division and is the first electrified car we have seen to wear the M badge.

Under the bonnet is a plug-in hybrid 4.4-litre V8, with 482bhp coming from combustion and a further 194bhp from the batteries. In total, we have 644bhp and 800Nm of torque. Four wheel drive is permanently on and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission.

For the performance, 0-60mph is handled in 4.3 seconds, with a standard top speed of 155mph. If you do want to go a bit faster, BMW will happily take £2,500 off you for the ‘M Driver’s Package.’ With this option, you can go up to 168mph. Like most hybrids, the XM can drive in EV only mode, up to 55 miles which is pretty competitive. The battery is a 25.7kWh unit.

The new BMW XM is on sale now here in the UK, with the first deliveries to customers expected early next year. Prices start at £145,885, which is way ahead of the already loftily priced X5 M, which is £82,660.
