New Subaru Solterra revealed with updated design and more range

At the New York motor show, Subaru revealed its new and refreshed Solterra electric SUV, with updated design and larger battery. The new car looks very different to the outgoing model, with completely redesigned front end panels and headlights.

It is stil heavily related to the Toyota bZ4X and Lexus RZ, both of which saw substantial design based updates recently, as well as the same larger battery we now see in the Solterra. The battery is now 74.4kWh, replacing the older 71.4kWh unit and offers "more than" 285 miles, when using the EPA test cycle in the US. Subaru is yet to reveal UK specs - but according to the brand, it now has 25% more range than the outgoing model.

Elsewhere, Subaru has fitted a new battery pre-conditioning system - meaning DC charging speeds should be much faster, regardless of the temperature. The Soltera can now charge at 150kW, meaning 10-80% can be done in around 35 minutes.

Inside, there is a new 14-inch infotainment screen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard as well as two 15W wireless phone chargers fitted in the front and USB-C ports in the back.
