British Airways is now offering WiFi onboard

British Airways has announced this week that onboard WiFi would be offered on its aircraft, however while the news may be all rosy, the rollout plan is going to take a while. As of writing, British Airways is offering currently WiFi on three planes, out of the entire fleet. The company has promised however, that over the next two years 118 planes will support onboard WiFi access.

By 2019 we expect to have 90% of our aircraft connected. While we roll out Wi-Fi, customers will only be notified once on board a connected flight.

British Airways

Is it free?

Yes, for the first hour BA is offering free WiFi access thanks to Visa who is sponsoring it for a limited amount of time. After that it’s £4.99 for the ‘Browse’ package, which as the name suggests won’t work very well for streaming. The higher priced ‘Stream’ package is faster so it will work with Netflix, BA is suggesting. The Stream package is £7.99.

British Airways is saying, once onboard look out for the ‘BAWi-Fi’ SSID to connect and your device will redirect to a portal to log in.
