BYD subsidiary, Denza introduces new electric four seater concept to rival Porsche

Denza Z

At the Shanghai Auto Show this week, Denza - one of the BYD sub-brands unveiled its new concept sports car, something to go up against the likes of the Porsche 911.

Denza is a more premium brand compared to BYD and it has a wide range of electric MPVs, but the Denza Z is the first time the brand has delved into the sports car segment. The BYD Group as a whole isn't a stranger to this kind of thing, with the Yangwang U9 supercar being launched in 2024.

The Denza Z has four seats, much like the Porsche 911 and its expected that the rear seats will be on the smaller side, but perfect for children.

Denza is due to reveal specific battery and drivetrain specifications, however, it does have a similar setup to the Denza Z9 GT which was launched in Europe in the last few weeks and is a rival for the Porsche Taycan. This has three electric motors and just under 1,000bhp, so the Denza Z could have a similar amount of power.

It also features a steer-by-wire system, much like the Tesla Cybertruck. However, Denza claims that this system is geared up to provide more feel when driving, regardless on motorway or something a bit more involved. That steering wheel can also be folded to provide more space inside.

At this stage, the Denza Z is a concept car, so it could launch in the future. Pricing and specs are due to be revealed, but what we do know is that both a hardtop and convertible version will be produced.
