GWM to close European HQ

Chinese car manufacturer, Great Wall Motors has plans to close is European HQ, which is located in Munich, Germany, The company has around 100 employees in the area, but crucially GWM does not plan to stop selling cars in Europe. Great Wall Motors has been expanding into Europe over the last few years, with GWM Ora and GWM Wey entering many countries. However, as German magazine, Manager Magazin revealed, the company has plans to close its HQ and lay off the employees. This closure will take place at the end of August 2024.

However, with GWM closing its HQ in Europe, this does not mean the company is going to suddenly pull out of the region. Countries where GWM sells cars will continue to be served, but any expansion into additional regions has been canceled. GWM Ora sells the 03, formally the Funky Cat in the UK, Germany, Ireland, Sweden and Israel. However, the company did have plans to expand into Austria and Switerzland which have now been scraped. Instead the managing of Europe will now be handled from China directly.

GWM Ora renamed the Funky Cat recently, which is now the GWM Ora 03 and the Wey Coffee has been renamed as the GWM Wey 05. These changes were made so shortly after the cars were initially inroduced.
