We reported a few weeks ago that Chery was due to launch in the UK soon, with a rather competitively priced SUV to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan. The Chery Tiggo 7 will be arriving in the UK this September, priced at £24,995 and will be joined by the larger Tiggo 8 priced at £28,500.
Chery held an event at the O2 in London on Thursday this week to officially launch the brand to the UK, where it revealed some key points about the brand and its history as well as the other models coming soon.
Chery has already been in the UK since August 2024, but with its subsidiary, Omoda - which was then joined by Jaecoo in early 2025. The decision to bring the parent company to the UK was decided around twenty years ago, according to Chery UK CEO Gary Lan. But the success of the two new brands has likely cemented this decision, as between them they have sold over 25,000 cars in less than one year.
While Omoda has an electric car offering and Jaecoo does soon, it seems that Chery is actually focusing on pure petrol and plug-in-hybrid vehicles first and the company even manufacturers its own engines. The Tiggo 7, which is a rival to the Volkswagen Tiguan starts at £24,995 for the pure petrol and at £29,995 for the PHEV, making it the cheapest plug-in hybrid in the UK. Although UK Product Manager Oliver Lowe, said that electric models will be offered.
The larger Tiggo 8 offers seven seats and is priced at £28,500 for the petrol and at £33,500 for the PHEV.
Chery also had two other models at the O2, with the smaller Tiggo 4 and premium Tiggo 9 - while these will be coming to the UK, pricing and availability is not yet known.
At the moment, Chery with all three brands now only makes SUVs. So, when asking Chery designer Micheal Duerr if city cars would be something we could see, he said "Yes, if we think of the product line up like a family, every member needs representation and once that is achieved, then do we truly have a brand."
Chery isn't just looking to sell cars in the UK, it wants to invest in the country too. With an R&D centre in the UK being worked on and in the long term, the group is open to producing car in the UK - although no time scale was provided for this.
In terms of the dealer network, the Chery brand will have separate retail locations to Omoda and Jaecoo and the company has 25 dealerships signed up, with 120 to be in operation by the end of 2026.
First customer deliveries for the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 will start by the end of September.
