Like Audi has done with the R8 supercar this week, Ford is planning on discontinuing its halo car, the Ford GT. The second generation supercar will come to the end of its production and just 20 LM Edition cars will be built. It follows on from various special editions Ford has produced over the years, with the Daytona Heritage Edition, the Holman Moody Heritage Edition and more.

Production of the LM Edition cars will start this autumn and they will be the very last editions of the supercar. Ford initially started selling it back in 2017 and was famously developed in secret, away from Ford bosses at the time.

The GT LM Edition has a full carbon-fibre body, finished in a new Liquid Silver. It can be had with a custom red or blue colour scheme. Ford also says the customisation level is good, with the ability to choose the colour on the door sills, side sits, rear splitter and door mirrors. The 20-inch wheels can also be customised too.

For the new special edition, the engine is unchanged. The 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 has a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. It has a 660bhp and 700bhp in later editions. This was a big departure from the previous version from 2004, which had a 5.4-litre V8 with 550bhp.
