Ford introduce new Puma ST, with 197bhp

Back in May this year, Ford shared some tease videos and photos online of an upcoming Puma ST, the current Puma has already won What Car? of the year and now Ford has a new high performance version of the baby SUV. This is Ford’s first performance SUV to be launched in Europe, the company already launched an ST version of the Edge in the US recently and now we have one of our own.

As rumoured, the new Puma ST is basically a Ford Fiesta ST underneath, the standard Puma is based on the hatch and the ST version shares the same engine, a 1.5-litre turbo and the power remains the same, at 197bhp. The torque has been increased for the Puma, from 214lb ft to 236lb ft as the Puma is nearly 100kg heavier than its smaller cousin. 0-60mph is the same as the Fiesta ST, at 6.7 seconds.

On the inside, Ford has retained the slick 6-speed manual gearbox from the Fiesta ST, flat bottom steering wheel, ST Recaro seats, wireless phone charging and parking sensors. Apple CarPlay integration is also standard on the Puma ST.

On the outside, Ford has added unique 19-inch alloys, with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, which have been designed for the Puma ST. The roof, grille, mirrors and roof spoiler are all gloss black and the colour in the photos we have is the new ‘Mean Green’ colour. On the back of the car, a diffuser has been added with twin exhaust pipes.

The new Puma ST is available to order from today, with prices starting at £28,495 and deliveries will be starting in before the end of 2020.
