Free upgrade for Windows 10 expires January 16th

Free upgrade for Windows 10 expires January 16th

Windows 10 has been with us for a little while now, and those who can recall – When the operating system was launched in the summer of 2015, Microsoft offered users on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, until July 2016.

What many might not know, those who require assistive technologies could have still upgraded to Windows 10 for free until December 31st 2017, but Microsoft extended the expiry date until the middle of this month.

“If you use assistive technologies, you can upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost as Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people who use these technologies. Please take advantage of this offer before it expires on January 16, 2018.”

Microsoft

Loophole, loophole

Whats actually interesting about this new extended upgrade, is that once you do upgrade, there isn’t any verification or any way of requiring to prove you need to use the assistive features in Windows 10, it is in essence an easy way of getting Windows 10 for free, if you happened to miss the upgrade in 2016.

How do I get this upgrade?

If you head to the FAQ page for the upgrade and click “Upgrade now”, it will begin the process.
