Google is blocking YouTube on the Amazon Echo Show and Fire TV

Google is blocking YouTube on the Amazon Echo Show and Fire TV

In the last few months, Amazon and Google have been butting heads on the integration of YouTube on Amazon’s devices, specifically on the Echo Show and Fire TV. As of writing, Google has now actually pulled support for YouTube on both the Echo Show and all the Fire TV devices.

The main feud is mainly over Amazon not selling some of Google’s own hardware products, such as Chromecast and the Google Home, mainly because they do directly compete with what Amazon offers with Fire TV and the Amazon Echo products.

The only reason the Apple TV was ever discontinued is because it doesn’t support Prime Video, but as of this week it does now. The main argument for this from Jeff Bezos was that he didn’t want to sell a product that couldn’t support Prime Video and if Amazon’s retail side were to sell it, it may confuse customers.

“We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services. But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

So, as it stands there is no support for YouTube on any Amazon Fire TV devices as well as the Echo Show.
