Google I/O was cancelled, but now it won’t even happen online

In early March, Google announced that its annual I/O developer was cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus health concerns and that it would be looking to host it differently this time but a few weeks ago, Google announced that the entire event has been cancelled in order “to prioritize the health of everybody who is a part of our community.”

Google has said in order to help protect the health of everyone, even a virtual event is now off the cards.

“Out of concern for the health and safety of our developers, employees, and local communities — and in line with recent “shelter in place” orders by the local Bay Area counties — we sadly will not be holding I/O in any capacity this year.”
