BYD has revealed today that the upcoming Dolphin all electric hatchback will go on sale in the UK this summer, priced from £25,490. The car made its debut earlier this year at Fully Charged Live South and when it does go on sale, it’ll be undercutting a lot of its competition, such as the MG4, ID.3 and Vauxhall Corsa Electric. The top spec Dolphin trim level with cost from £30,990.
The BYD Dolphin has been on sale in China already and for Europe, this is a modified car being a bit larger. The car is 4.3 metres long, 30cm more than the Corsa Electric. BYD offers only one other car in the UK, the Atto 3 which is a medium SUV and is also all electric.
Like the Atto 3, the Dolphin uses BYD’s ‘Blade’ battery pack, which is integrated into the core structure of the car. The pack is a 60kWh unit, capable of 265 miles of range. Lower spec trims get a 44.9kWh pack with 211 miles or range. The Dolphin is front wheel drive, with 201bhp and can do 0-60mph in around seven seconds.
Charging is up to 88kW and this will charge the battery from 30-80% in 29 minutes. On board AC is up to 11kW
Inside you’ll find a super large 12.8-inch touchscreen, which can rotate between portrait and landscape to suit what you are looking at. This is the exact same unit as found in the Atto 3.
BYD says the Dolphin will go on sale here in the UK this summer. At present, BYD only has four dealers but is working hard to expand this to twenty pretty soon.
