iFixit tear down new iPod touch

The latest iPod touch has been teared down by iFixit – the new device was released last week and comes in brand new colours of pink, blue and gold as well as space grey, silver and product red. The last model was released in 2012 and had the A5 chip from the iPhone 4s. The design of the device is relatively the same, but it loses the loop. The camera has also been updated from 5MP to 8MP.

Powering the iPod touch 6th generation is the A8 64-bit chip and the M8 motion co-processor from the iPhone 6 as well as 1GB RAM. The last generation iPod touch had an A5 chip and 512MB of RAM to power it. The battery in the new iPod touch is also marginally bigger from 1030 mAh to 1043 mAh. This isn’t a large jump in capacity and it won’t make much of a difference to the battery life.

The new iPod touch was rated by iFixit for repairability at 4 out of 10.
