According to the latest report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) the sales of new electric cars is on the rise, again. In July a brand new EV was registered ‘every 60 seconds’ and sales are up by 87.9% in July this year, when compared to July 2022. New car sales across the entire UK landscape rose by 28.3% during the same time period, with 143,921 cars registered.

Most of the growth is coming from fleet sales, with those kinds of orders amounting to 80,961 vehicles – a rise of around 63% since the same time in 2022. However, while fleet sales were high, private new car sales grew by just one third of a percent with 60,045 new models sold.

The SMMT has said that in order to meet the 2030 target of having 300,000 public chargers available, the rate at which they are installed needs to rapidly increase, by 10,000 chargers extra per quarter every quarter. One of the main concerns about moving to an EV with the general public is that there is not enough chargers.
