Lepas L8 will be the brand's first UK model when it arrives later this year

Lepas L8 UK

Chery as a company has only been in the UK since August 2024, when the Omoda 5 and E5 were originally debuted. Since then, it has launched Jaecoo in early 2025 and then later last year, the Chery brand itself. Now, the fourth brand from the group is due to launch this summer in the UK, with Lepas.

We originally reported earlier this month that Lepas is due to launch in the UK in 2026, but details on what model would be the first were not revealed at the time.

The L8 is going to be the first car from the brand to go on sale in the UK, and it is starting out strong, as this is its flagship model. It is a five seat large SUV that is around the same size as the Chery Tiggo 9, so rear legroom and boot space here should be plentiful.

As for powertrain, details are scarce at the moment, but the brand has said that the L8 will use the Chery New Energy Vehicle (NEV) modular platform, with the term New Energy Vehicle typically meaning plug-in hybrid or EV.

However, considering the the Lepas L8 is essentially a re-badged and reworked second generation Chery Tiggo 8, which is available as a plug-in-hybrid, it seems safe to assume this is the direction it'll go in. Also the provided images show a combination fuel and PHEV range on the driver screen, giving us another hint.

Inside, there is a verticlal 13.2-inch infotainment screen and 10.2-inch driver display as well as a similar steering wheel design seen in the latest Omoda 7.

Lepas will share more information about the L8 “in the coming weeks”.
