iOS 11.2.6 is released, fixes character crashing bug

Just today, Apple has released iOS 11.2.6 to compatible iPhones, iPads and iPod touches – the release only focus on the Telugu bug which was discovered last week, on the 15th Feb.

The bug was said to cause crashes, freezes or just a general shut down of the device if one character in the Indian language of Telugu was typed out, so long as the device was running earlier versions of iOS 11 or macOS 13.3 but it has been known to cause issues even for the most recent version, iOS 11.2.5 and macOS 13.3.

With today’s release of iOS 11.2.6, as well as watchOS 4.2.3 and macOS 13.3.3 the bug has been fixed and as far as we know, this is the only thing which has been fixed or changed in this release.

Apple release notes

iOS 11.2.6 includes bug fixes for your iPhone or iPad. This update:

Fixes an issue where using certain character sequences could cause apps to crash

Fixes an issue where some third-party apps could fail to connect to external accessories

iOS 11.3

The bug has also been already fixed in iOS 11.3, watchOS 4.3 and macOS 13.3.4 but these new versions are currently in beta being tested and are expected to be launched sometime this spring.

Updating

As usual with any iOS update, you can update directly on the device, by going to Settings > General > Software Update. All the devices which currently run iOS 11 can support this new update.
