New Morgan Supersport £102,000 flagship revealed

Morgan doesn't really launch new cars that often, so this brand new Supersport is quite a moment for the company. Morgan, the Malvern based car company unveiled the new Supersport with fanfare last week, inviting TV's Richard Hammond to help launch it, which was live-streamed online.

The new Supersport is replacing the outgoing Plus Six and will therefore sit above the Plus Four as the new flagship for the company. The Supersport is a pretty thorough reworking, with a brand new aluminium chassis, modern interior and even though it looks distinctly 'Morgan' - it has been redesigned in many ways.

The exterior design is one of the areas where it has had a lot of work and Morgan has taken a lot of inspiration from the Midsummer limited run car. For example, the larger headlights and front air intakes come straight from that car. Around the back, the diffuser is open ended and has brand new LED rear lights.

On the back section of the car, Morgan has fitted a new brand 'Morgan' script on the boot lid and this is actually the first car that Morgan has launched in around ten years that features an actual boot.

Morgan will be offering the Supersport with either a hard top or soft top and these can be interchangeable, if required. The hard top is made out of carbon fibre and only weighs 19.7kg.

Inside, Morgan has fitted a few elements of technology, but not too much. A first for a Morgan is a wireless phone charging slot as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

Morgan has been using BMW engines for a long time and this new Supersport is no different. Morgan has used the same engine that was found in the previous Plus Six. So this is a 3.0-litre six cylinder petrol engine, making 335bhp with an automatic eight speed gearbox only. 0-60mph is handled in almost the same time as the Plus Six, which was 4.3 seconds. Exact figures are due to be released for this.

The new Morgan Supersport is available to order now, with prices starting at £102,000. This price doesn't however, include the roof. If you want one roof type, that bumps the price up to £105,500 - or if you want both, thats £107,500. Morgan will start delivering the first ones to customers later this year.
