New facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 6 could launch in 2025

According to a report from Electronic Times, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 could receive a facelift in 2025 which would bring it up to speed with the Ioniq 5. The refresh would entail design changes, larger battery pack resulting in more range. The Ioniq 6 was only recently launched in June 2022 and if the refresh happens in 2025, the car would only be three years, a pretty short time for a car company to already refresh an existing model.

Larger battery, improved range

To match what the company did with the recent Ioniq 5 refresh in March, the Ioniq 6 would more than likely receive the 84kWh pack, replacing the 77.4kWh unit it has today. When the company fitted this battery to the Ioniq 5, it saw the range increase from 458 km to 485 km and in theory in the Ioniq 6, the range could jump from 524 km to 555 km.

That new 84kWh isn't just larger, it is a whole new generation of batteries from Hyundai built on its fourth generation, resulting in much higher energy density. The new battery was first seen in the Ioniq 5N hot hatch.

Could the Ioniq 6 be built in the US?

Also mentioned in the report was the fact that the Hyundai Motor Company could start to make the car in the United States. The company is working on a new factory in Georgia, USA and manufacturing the the car locally would result in government incentives of up to $7,500. The factory is currently under construction and is scheduled to be finished in Q4 2024.
