Vauxhall has added to the growing Astra lineup with a new premium entry, the Astra GSe Sports Tourer which is on sale now here in the UK with prices starting at £43,250. The main reason for the price jump is the fact that this is now a plug in hybrid, with extra equipment and batteries. The standard hatchback Astra GSe went on sale earlier this year, priced from £40,550.

The Sports Tourer variant is no different in terms of tech and batteries, it has the same 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine and 12.4kWh battery. The GSe is a hot hatch version of the standard PHEV Astra and has 222bhp, rather than 178bhp in the standard car. The electric motor makes 107bhp alone and when the car is running in EV mode, it has 39 miles of range.

Being a GSe performance car, Vauxhall have added new dampers, sports steering, lower ride hide and 18inch alloy wheels. Elsewhere, the car has a new front bumper, GSe badging and a redesigned interior. Inside, we can find Alcantara sports seats, GSe leather steering wheel and 10-inch infotainment screen.

The Vauxhall Astra is the first car to get the new GSe branding, a emplacement for the iconic GSi brand from the last forty years.
